BE A FORCE FOR GOOD

Image may contain: 1 person, smiling, text
I grew up in a nice neighborhood. We all were expected to go to school and get good grades because that was necessary for future success and our parents will take care of the rest... The reason we all had to go do school and work hard to get good grades is because we have been taught that if we want to succeed in life, we have to succeed in school. I remember I had the second highest score in the Department and I was so happy about it. I truly believed that and I did all I could, not only to have good grades bur but to have a good influence on others and to build a legacy for my youngest siblings. After I graduaded from High School in Haiti. I started working on the things that were most important for me in life. I decided to work on going to College, working with my parents, create my own small little business (Cosmetic Products) but the most important was be a charge of my parents orphanage. I learned so much from that time where I was able to spend most of my time with the most kind, loving, happy kids on the planet. At the same time, I felt so bad for having them at the orphanage, because my wish for them was to see them with their family, not in the orphanage. I remember sometimes I would ask my parents what can we could do to make that posssible for them, and the answer are always "We are already doing what we can do to help them!" Which is having them here to take care of them. Right before my mission for my Chruch, I told myself that I will one day help those kids. I didn't know how and when but I did know one day I would do something that would change their life forever.

After my mission, I decided to create something. I used everything I had in my mind to get the right idea and create something that will help this generation. I started my organization ARISE. I called it a project, a project for humanity. I started sharing my stories and invited youth to learn from it. I didn't want to have regrets in the future, I knew I had to do something. I didn't know exactly how until I turned on my phone one day to share a message about where my life was 5 years ago and where it is now. I want my nation and all other nations to know that life has so much in store for each one of them. They can go further in life if they work hard, plan, and believe in themselves. I started this project because I personally want to inspire the youth in this generation to accomplish great things with the power that they have inside of them. Because I want to help create leaders in all the commuties around the globe. I want them to know that THEY CAN DO HARD THINGS!!!

Anybody can do anything if they want to, if they decide to... I invite those who are reading this right now to say those things to yourself.
I AM A FORCE FOR GOOD!
I CAN DO HARD THINGS!
I WILL BELIEVE NOT DOUBT!
I CAN BE ANYTHING I WANT!
I WANT TO MAKE TODAY COUNT!

GO AFTER WHAT YOU WANT

Rubens Georges and Valcin Mickelson served in the same mission I did. These men are incredible and I'm so grateful to call them brothers. I'm sharing this post to share a great lesson I learned from Georges that the world needs to learn too. Georges has an incredible project to help Haiti and he has his project written down. He decided to invite friends and family to come to his event so that he can introduce his project and show them how he wanted to help Haiti. He set up a day and invited everyone. When the day came, he was the only one who showed up and later that day his friend Valcin showed up. When Georges messaged me and talked to me about his frustration, I didn't see that people did not come to his meeting. All I saw was his confidence and his courage to stand for what he believes and draw his plan on the board and share it to his friend Valcin, even though all those chairs were empty. Those are the kind of people we want in this world to help us make a difference. People that believe they can move forward even when no one else comes with them! People who have the courage to act by themselves when the world tells them that they can't. People who hope and never give up faith on their passion even in hard times.

My message for each one of you today is to go after what you want and fight for it to make it a reality because If you don't, you will be stuck!  Not everyone is gonna believe in your passion, but that doesn't mean it's not worth fighting for it. You have the power to go and do it! We're living in a time where there are opportunities all around us, all we have to do is to JUMP. Because if we don't jump, our parachute will never open.

Today Georges is a part of ARISE and we are working together on his project. If anyone would like to learn of what Georges is doing in Haiti, please contact him at rubensgeorges1@gmail.com.

THE JOURNEY...

Image may contain: one or more people, people standing, wedding, ocean, child, outdoor, nature and water

When I first met this girl at a coockie party a friend in our ward was doing a Monday, March 16th at Turnberry. I remember that night like I can remember the last time I say to myself that I CAN! I came to this FHE that night, I was sitting in a corner and she came and introduced her to me. By that time, she was in the Relief Society in Her ward and she heard that thre is a Black Haitian Boy in the ward. She came to ask me questions about me so that she could gets to know me. After I tell her things about me, I started asking her things about her. I remember I asked her three (3) questions that I was so inspired to asked that night.
Did you serve a mission?
Do you love the Gospel?
Do you love the Temple? And she said YES to three of them. And I asked her if we coukld go to the temple together? She thought that I mean if she could give me a ride to go to the temple. She accepted to come with me. On thursday March 19th, we decided to meet each other somewhere to go to the Temple. She came with her friend Melissa that night! I wasn't expected that she will bring a friend but she did! Maybe for some security reason, because she didn't know me really well and she didn't know my intentions. She did came with her friend and we went to a session at Salt Lake City Temple. It was a wonderful night and we get to know each other and we went home. Day after day, we started talking to each other via social media (Facebook Messenger), We end up going out more often and she started introduced me to her friends. We started dating! It wasn't quite normal for some people for some cultural reasons and some other reasons that I can't describe here. I remember while we were going out together, I was working on my English because the main purpose of me coming here is for school. She was helping me a lot with my English and some time with ride. I remember she did tell me once if I ever need a ride, I'm welcome to contact her and if she's not in a position to give me a ride she will ask one of her friends for me. We became friends and we end up building a friendship, at the same time we were date.
For months late, in July, before she went on a trip with her parents, we talked about Breaking Up. I was about to go back to my country and she is about to go to Hill Cumorah Pageant with her family while I'm getting ready to go home in the next three weeks. In July 17th, on my birthday, I received a pizza from her that she ordered for me while she is in New York. In July 24th, the same day I was about to go to Haiti at the airport, she came from NYC with her family. She stayed with me at the airport to help me with my flight while her family gone. We had a serious and sad conversation that night and I said Good Bye!

In December 2016, I decided to come back to Utah to stay with my friend's parents house while I was going to school here. To mention, before I moved back to Utah, I was Louisiana and end up going to Texas. I had some bad experience by the choices I made by choosing to date someone that I shouldn't.
I came back to Utah. I remember a Friday morning, while I was in Provo at BYU at the library, I decided to call Sharla for the first time when I came back to see if she can give me a ride home. She didn't know I was there but she heard I was gonna come. I didn't had a way to make back home and I felt that I should call her, I received that prompting for more than twice and I finally called her and she picked up and ask me what I want? After telling her that I'm in Provo and was wondering if she could give me ride, she said YES and 50 later she picked me up and I remember while we were on our way to drop me home, I was in the car feeling so embarrased for asking her but I did feel that I made the right call. We didn't talk much for the whole drive and she did asked me some questions but I decided not to look at her while we were talking. She dropped me home and I said THANK YOU.

On february 14th, I started chat with her and asked her if she had plan for tonight. We decided to go get breakfast somewhere. It was a great moment and we were able to communicate again to each other. We end up going out more often and one day we decided to tell our parents that we are dating seriously. For her and her family, it was quite accepted (For me to date her). For some reasons, but most importantly the fact that I was dating someone after I left last time. Months months later, we decided to pray and fast very often about our relationship to know if it's the right thing to do. We received so many answers... answers that we don't understand. We decided to take a break from seeing each other but it didn't works. In may, she went to Hawaii for 3 weeks and we didn't talk in the beginnig because we decided not to just to spend time on working on our promptings and stuff. She was there with the Family she was Homeschool. It wasn't an easy trip and I did missed her a lot that moment. We finally get a hold of each other because we couldn't resisted not to talk to each other. It was a great experience for both of us to realize how much we were mean to be with each other. When she got back from this trip, week later she went on another trip with her sister in Washington D.C Seattle for a concert. All those things happened to show us that we can't live without each other and to teach us how important it is to have each other in our life. After these two trips, we had some serious conversations about our feeling and the answer we both received and we decided to move forward.

In june 2016, we decided to take a trip to Haiti so that she can meet my family and see more of where I came from. For the safety reason downthere, we decided to have my mom here instead. My mom came here for 10 days and able to meet her, her parents, families and friends. We went to family reunions with my mom and spend some quality times with her. When she left Utah to go back to Haiti, I decided to transfer my heart to someone else that is going to be mine forever.

In july 17th, the day of my birthday, I decided to ask her to marry me and she said YES! We were sealed in Salt Lake City Temple for time and eternity and become eternal companion. A day to remember the path we took and the decisions we both made.

TO BE CONTINUED!

THERE ARE STILL HEROES AMONG US

When I first met Chareyl Moyes, I was on my mission in Petion-Ville, serving for my church as an Assistant to my Mission President. I remember she wasn't alone, it was a group of wonderful people who came to serve. For some reason in life, they have become my dear friends... I'm so grateful for Her! She taught me so much and especially about serving others. I'm also grateful for Nikolas Allred who is now a great friend of mine and his Aunt Shannon Allred who is a woman with a gold of heart.

Three months ago, I introduced Chareyl to my dear wife who's my inspiration and the reason I'm doing what I'm doing in life.

This girl right here is incredible! She has half of her heart in Haiti! She just got back from a humanitarian trip to Haiti with Haitian Roots while she is not feeling well but she did it! We call her HERO for so many reasons... reasons that words cannot describe! We are so grateful for her righteous example of serving others. She also adopted this handsome kid standing by me in the photo.  He has become a buddy of mine.  He is a light to the world and we can't wait to see where life's going to take him and how the world will be a better place because of his knowledge. Robby is a great fan of the Utah Jazz and we love talking about Basketball which is something that makes him happy.

However, we invite each one of you to keep Chareyl in your prayer so that she can gets better soon and continues to do the work with more physical strength and power.

We love you Chareyl and hope that your heart will always turn to the people in this world that needs it the most. Thanks again for helping us with ARISE and for giving us the opportunity to serve with you in this journey.

UNDER THE RUBBLE

'On a Tuesday in January of 2010, for no clear reason, my mother came to my school in Haiti to pick me up early. In Haiti, you don't usually leave school until your homework is done. The fact that my mother came and picked me up that particular day is a testimony for me that God loves every one of us and watches out for us. That day was when we had the big earthquake. I was sixteen and she brought me to one of the orphanages that my father ran. I went in and was sitting and talking with the little children when suddenly, the building started shaking and it collapsed on top of us. It was a three story building full of little children and I was on the bottom floor.
I didn't know what had happened...and at that time, I didn't know much about God even though we were Catholic. While I was in that collapsed building, I remember hearing people screaming and I spoke to God. I told Him, 'if You save me, I will serve You.' I was crying and screaming to get out. A voice came to me telling me to stop screaming because I would use up all my energy screaming and that I would die if I didn't stop. I actually heard that voice telling me to be calm. Over the next twenty-nine hours, one by one, all the little children in that collapsed building stopped crying and screaming. One by one, I could almost hear them passing away. My arm was broken and blood was all over my face. I could hear people digging and praying and looking for survivors. There were no tractors or tools to get people out. They used picks and knives and machetes to dig me out.
All the time I was buried alive, there was someone there with me, keeping me calm. I was close to dying...I was so tired and hungry for 28 hours UNDER THAT BUILDING. I kept hearing that voice that gave me hope. They found fifteen bodies before they got to me. They dropped a rope down a hole and a man came down to get me and he got stuck. They had to pull him out before they could get to me. The moment they got me was when I was sure I was going to die. It was the last possible moment.
Haiti was devastated by the earthquake. The saddest part of my story is that all my classmates that stayed in school to do their homework, like we always did, were all dead. If my mother hadn't come to get me from school like she did, I would have been killed that day. Even then, we still thought life was over. There was no water, no food, no work...but there was still hope. That was the beginning of a new chapter in my life. I reached out to God to know why He saved my life. Three months later, I met a man who taught me about Jesus Christ. He invited me to church and introduced me to two missionaries and I was baptized in July, on my birthday...six months after the earthquake. I ended up serving a mission in Haiti and I worked hard to serve God.
I then came to Utah to study at Brigham Young University. I stayed with a friend at first and then lived with my bishop and his family for a little while. I'm working hard to get where I want to go. I have my wife, my baby, and my own house. Now, I have something to give back to Haiti. I started a project called ARISE: Project for Humanity. I want to empower new generations, especially in Haiti, to believe that, in spite of hard times, there is always hope and that we can create what we need to be successful. My dream is to see Haiti become an example of
standing on
its own and to prove that we can all
make a difference.
We all have something to do, something to give, and something to create.'

ARISE Project For Humanity

After I got back from my mission for the LDS church in Haiti (January 2015), I headed directly to the U.S. to study at BYU-Idaho. While in Utah, I thought about people I served in my mission and their difficult situations. But the desire to help was always in my heart, and I was waiting for the right moment and for the Lord to show me how I’m going to serve. I arose early in the morning and made a list of contacts around the world. I called my list and explained how I wanted to help those people. The sympathy I received told me this was a worthy goal. "Service to Humanity is Service to Divinity.” I started thinking about the best way to help my nation without hurting them. I felt like I had so many things I had received from the Lord that I could use to do that. I decided to share my story and experiences in life and how by following my passion, I take myself to another level. Now I want to realize this dream of helping EMPOWER YOUTH to believe in themselves.

I decided to help the children victimized from exploitation and abuse and teach them the skills and principles that can help them create their dreams.

I'm very anxious to make a positive impact in people's lives in Haiti and those in Dominican Republic. I would appreciate help in coordinating with people by mentoring youth and those that are helping victims of disaster and calamity to heal the wounds of these people. I want to give them a helping hand that not only removes some suffering and hardship, but gives them hope for the future. Donations will help me use more places in Haiti to speak to the youth in the communities and also assist them in their projects. I'm the Founder of my Organization ARISE PROJECT FOR HUMANITY, an organization set on empowering youth to RISE ABOVE DOUBT and to believe in themselves and learn skills to succeed.

I personally want to do everything I can to help the people of HAITI. I want to help create a Haiti where every child can reach their full potential no matter who they are or where they come from.

Thanks so much!
